This series talks to a connection to tide, land and sea and the abundance of Rangihoua awa and Putiki Bay where Esther McDonalds Turangawaiwai sits. Underneath the maunga Te Putiki O Kahumatamoemoe. These works individually depict the eco system of the waterway. A homage to Esther Mcdonald’s matua who carefully tend to the whenua and celebrate each harvest with care, dedication and the passing down of knowledge.

Karepō talks to the seagrass that grows in Te Huruhi bay and into Rangihoua awa, a rich and vital part of the eco system of the area.

Hand thrown on the pottery wheel in pure Te Wairoa Awe Hua Kurauku uku from Ngāti Paoa whenua. Hand carved on a folded rim to represent karepō and glazed inside and inlayed into carving in bespoke torea pango glaze.
